Individual Intake Session

Your initial intake session is the first step in beginning counseling. This session is designed to help us get to know one another, understand what brings you to therapy, and begin creating a plan that supports your goals and well-being.

The intake session is not about judgment or pressure — it is a collaborative conversation focused on understanding your experiences, concerns, and hopes for therapy.

Individual Session

Choosing individual counseling is a powerful step toward understanding yourself, healing from past experiences, and creating meaningful change. Individual therapy provides a safe, confidential space to explore challenges, build coping skills, and move forward with support.

Whether you are navigating trauma, substance use concerns, stress, anxiety, life transitions, or emotional overwhelm, individual counseling is tailored to meet you where you are.

Couples Intake Session

The couples counseling intake session is the first step in beginning therapy together. This session is designed to provide a supportive and safe space where both partners can share their experiences, discuss challenges, and begin setting goals for your relationship.

This session is about connection, clarity, and understanding — not pressure or blame. It is a collaborative starting point to help you and your partner feel heard and supported as you begin your journey toward a healthier, stronger relationship.

Couples Session

Taking the step to begin couples counseling is a meaningful investment in your relationship. Sessions are designed to provide a safe, respectful space where both partners feel heard and supported.

Couples counseling can help you improve communication, rebuild trust, and work through challenges such as conflict, trauma, or the impact of substance use — all while strengthening your emotional connection.

Hi, I’m Alexa Ybarra

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, supervised by Dr. Kendra McLaughlin, LPC-S and the founder of Novum Counseling & Wellness in Amarillo, Texas. I created Novum from a deep belief in new beginnings, meaningful change, and the power each person has to heal, grow, and create a life that feels aligned and fulfilling.

I work with individuals and couples who are navigating trauma, substance use, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centered, meaning therapy is tailored to you — your story, your goals, and your pace. I believe counseling should feel safe, supportive, and empowering, not overwhelming or intimidating.

I bring experience from inpatient psychiatric care, educational counseling, and leadership roles, allowing me to understand emotional challenges across all stages of life. I have worked extensively with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families, providing therapy in both crisis-focused and long-term growth settings.

I am also nationally recognized for my service and dedication, receiving the Phillips 66 “Live to the Full” Heroes Award. This recognition reflects my commitment to ethical practice, compassion, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those I serve.

At Novum, I specialize in:

  • Trauma and stress-related concerns

  • Substance use and recovery support

  • Individual counseling

  • Marriage and couples counseling

  • Family dynamics and relationship repair

  • Emotional regulation, boundaries, and self-growth

Therapy with me is collaborative and goal-focused. We work together to build awareness, develop coping strategies, and create behavioral changes that last a lifetime. Whether you are seeking healing from past experiences or clarity for what comes next, you do not have to do it alone.

Novum means new beginnings — and I would be honored to walk alongside you as you begin yours.
